While I am pretty type B I am also cheap. So when I planned or lack of planned my trip across the west coast and back across the country, camping was the way we were going to go. The setting is a Vancouver Walmart and we are in the outdoor section looking at tents. Obviously a beautiful blue and gray $30 tent stood out as our new home for our upcoming adventure. It's late September and the weather was turning but what can't we do? So we got our tent and were excited and nervous for our first night in our new home. Little did we know how much rain and wind we would encounter over the next 4 weeks. While attempting to put up our tent at Golden Ears Campground the rain is torrential, the sun has been down for an hour and we have a very wet tent, soaked clothes and one of our poles has already broken. Can you believe that? I thought Walmarts $30 tents were indestructible. Anyways, we spent nights cold, wet, and windy in that tent and continued to put it up everywhere we went down the coast and back east. Some nights it stayed upright, some nights it fell on us while we slept. Other nights the wind shook the tent so aggressively we couldn't get to sleep. One thing about myself and my travel partner Hayden is that we are overjoyed regardless. While we have complicated relationships with our dear tent, we still appreciate her for what she did for us on the road and all the money we saved camping on our road-trip vs any other method. RIP to our tent for it took a trip to the dump on 10-23-2025.
